PREVIOUS BOARD/BOARD COMMITTEE ACTIONS:
September 25, 2018, the 2018-19 application was approved by the Board of Supervisors. September 10, 2019, the 2019-2020 application was approved by the Board of Supervisors.
SUMMARY OF REQUEST:
The U.S. DOJ Edward Byrne Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program issues an opportunity to apply for funds each year. The turn-around time between receiving the opportunity to apply and the submission deadline is short and does not give enough time to come before the Board of Supervisors for approval of funding. On July 21, 2020, a letter requesting approval to submit the application was sent to the CEO as per County Policy 25, Section One, Number 4 to seek approval with follow up to the Board of Supervisors at their next available meeting. The proposed award for Mendocino County is $17,448. For the past several years, the Sheriff Office has applied for and received annual DOJ JAG awards. The grant funds will be used to purchase video redaction and editing software for in-car recordings, as well as replace aged computer equipment that is essential to front line law enforcement and support staff and will allow the Sheriff's Office to avoid degradation of public safety due to inadequate equipment.
