Previous Board/Board Committee Actions:

The Board received similar presentations from PG&E in July and August of 2019.

Summary of Request

As experienced by Mendocino County in 2019, if severe weather threatens a portion of the electric system, it may be necessary for PG&E to turn off electricity in the interest of public safety.  These power shutoffs are known as Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS).  The COVID-19 pandemic creates an entirely new complexity for PSPS planning and response in 2020.  PG&E will explain how they are working to make PSPS events smaller in size, shorter in length, and smarter.  Additional information, including a portal to share with PG&E to update your contact information and find answers to frequently asked questions can be found online at <https://www.pge.com/en_US/safety/emergency-preparedness/natural-disaster/wildfires/public-safety-power-shutoff-faq.page> .  Additionally, the County has been actively working on various measures in order to prepare for the potential loss of power.
