Summary of Request:
The mission of the North Coast Opportunities (NCO)’s MendoLake Food Hub is to support the economic viability of small farms and food access in the community. It provides farmers access to a shared sales and distribution network which serves both wholesale buyers like grocery stores, schools and restaurants, and individual customers served by the Food Hub’s Home Delivery Program.
In response to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Food Hub has partnered with a broad range of organizations to support food access for underserved and at-risk members of our community. The Food Hub aggregates, packs, and distributes Covid-19 Relief Boxes from food hub farmers, which include but not limited to locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables, with options for grains, legumes, eggs, bread, and olive oil.
The Food Hub has been delivering hundreds of boxes of food to people that are food insecure due to COVID. This contract will supplement the existing program to cover 3,693 boxes of food to individuals and families experiencing food insecurity due to COVID-19. Under this contract, NCO will also distribute approximately 400 Farmers Market Matches worth approximately $10,000.
