Summary of Request

The Chief Probation Officer has assigned a Deputy Probation Officer to the County’s Major Crimes Task Force.  On October 21, 2014, the Board approved increasing the Probation Department’s fleet by one vehicle to provide a dedicated vehicle to this officer.  At that time, a 4-wheel drive pickup truck that had been recently retired from the Sheriff’s Office that had high miles, but was otherwise serviceable, was assigned to the department.  On June 21, 2016, the Board approved replacement of that vehicle due to the higher miles and repeated service/repairs necessary to maintain continued operation of the vehicle.  The Sheriff’s Office and District Attorney’s office purchased a replacement vehicle for the Deputy Probation Officer assigned to the Task Force utilizing Asset Forfeiture funds.  The vehicle was a 2014 Dodge Ram 1500 truck.  That vehicle was subsequently reassigned back to the Sheriff’s Office and the Probation Department was assigned a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 truck.  This vehicle, #20-045, now has in excess of 136,146 miles and needs repairs that have been determined to not be advisable based on the age and miles of the vehicle.  The Sheriff’s Office has agreed to purchase a new vehicle for the Deputy Probation Officer assigned to the Task Force utilizing CAL MMET Grant funds.  The current vehicle (#20-045) will be retired and reassigned to the County Garage to determine final disposition.
