Summary of Request

The Ukiah Senior Center, which directly serves much of inland Mendocino County, has outgrown its current facility and has an opportunity to acquire land and develop a new Senior Community Center (Center) adjacent to the Rural Communities Housing Development on Brush Street. The new location will increase the visibility and accessibility of the Center, increase capacity for meetings and events and allow for expansion of the thrift store which will contribute to the financial sustainability of the Center. The new Center will expand opportunities for collaboration with Mendocino County by serving as a Community Resource Center for seniors local non-profit organizations and as a convenient location for County meetings or as an evacuation or emergency support venue. The Ukiah Senior Center will sell its current facility and initiate a Capital Campaign to secure funding for the new facility but respectfully requests the Board of Supervisors to authorize limited staff support to secure Community Development Block Grant or other State or Federal funding needed to complete the Center.
