Previous Board/Board Committee Actions:
This purchase was not included in the original budget adopted for FY 2020-21. The Board of Supervisors approves as needed larger dollar purchase requests and budget appropriation changes.
Summary of Request:
The Probation Department’s portable radios are out of date and are not recommended for use as first responders. It is essential that the Probation Department have equipment that will enable it to communicate not only as a first responder with other allied agencies during the time of emergency but also to perform its duties as law enforcement personnel on a daily basis. This purchase will bring Probation’s radios up to the same platform used by other law enforcement personnel in the county allowing for better and seamless communication. Each unit is under $3,000 so are not considered fixed assets.
Alternative Action/Motion:
Deny the request. This will jeopardize the Probation’s Department ability to meet the communication requirements of first responders.
