RECOMMENDED ACTION/MOTION:

Approve retroactive 2020 Edward Byrnes Justice Assistance Grant from the U.S. Department of Justice in the amount of $17,448 for the project period of October 1, 2019 through September 30, 2021 for the purchase of video redaction and editing software for in-car recordings and the replacement of aged computer and communications equipment; authorize the Sheriff to sign any future amendments that do not affect the contract total; and authorize Chair to sign same.

PREVIOUS BOARD/BOARD COMMITTEE ACTIONS:
December 17, 2019, the Board approve the JAG grant for 2019/20, BOS # 19-269. August 18, 2020, the Board approved ratification of the 2020 JAG grant application.

SUMMARY OF REQUEST:
For the past several years, the Sheriff's Office (SO) has applied for and received annual Edward Byrnes JAG grants from the DOJ. The application for the 2020 was submitted in August of this year and the award was announced to us on October 18, 2020. This year's award is $17,448. The grant funds are used to purchase video redaction and editing software for in-car recordings that is essential to the SO's ability to comply with Assembly Bill (AB) 748, which dictates that Law Enforcement agencies have 45 calendar days to release video and audio recordings relating to a critical incident and Public Recor...
