Summary of Request

As of 2019, there are over 697,195 sworn law enforcement officers serving in the United States. Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office has approximately 124 deputies. Other law enforcement agencies in the County include local Police Departments, California Highway Patrol, State Parks Officers, Cal Fire Officers, Bureau of Land Management Officers, Department of Fish and Wildlife Officers, United States Forest Service Officers and Federal Drug Enforcement Officers.  From 2010 to 2019, there have been 511 officers killed in the line of duty. The job is dangerous on many levels. The daily danger of patrol is high. The drug crisis increases the danger associated with gangs and domestic violence. Many other factors play into the constant danger that officers face.  This National Day of Appreciation for Law Enforcement Officers allows us once a year to recognize all the officers that serve our County and our Nation.  Everyone is encouraged to thank an officer for their service on this day and all through the year.
