Previous Board/Board Committee Actions:
Approval of the 2020-2021 Budget including a Capital Improvement project for a new Hardened Building to Relocate 911 Communications Equipment and Servers in the amount of $160,000 and additional funding at First Quarter in the amount of $210,000.
Summary of Request:
The 911 Dispatch Center located at the west end of the Probation Building at 589 Low Gap Road serves as the hub of the Emergency Response communications system for all responding agencies in Mendocino County and neighboring communities. As has been previously reported to the Board, the original design for the 911 building located the communications equipment, network switching and data storage infrastructure in the basement of that facility. Waterproofing, cooling, ventilation and access issues associated with the basement location place this critical equipment at a higher than acceptable risk to damage and possible failure. At the direction of the Board, staff has developed preliminary designs for a standalone communications equipment building adjacent to the 911 facility and communications tower with related electrical improvements and back-up power system. This contract provides for the completion of the design and preparation of all required plans for permitting, bidding and construction.
