RECOMMENDED ACTION/MOTION:

Direct staff to author a Resolution to terminate Cooperative Services Agreement (CSA) with USDA Wildlife Services; and author a Resolution to vest administrative responsibility for implementation of the Mendocino County Non-Lethal Wildlife Damage Management Program with Mendocino County Animal Care Services.

PREVIOUS BOARD/BOARD COMMITTEE ACTIONS:
Board of Supervisors approved the contract for the Wildlife Services contract for Integrated Wildlife Damage Management Program on December 17, 2019. On February 25, 2020, the BOS received a presentation from Sonoma County Wildlife Rescue.

SUMMARY OF REQUEST:
Mendocino County has contracted with USDA Wildlife Services program at a cost of $170,000 per year. This program has been very controversial. Terminating this program requires a three month notification. The funds saved could be used for a non-lethal program and consolidation of the Animal Care, Animal Control, and Wildlife Services into one department. Animal Control has been part of the Sheriff's office but the Sheriff would like to transfer it over to Animal Care. Consolidating the different wildlife and animal control services under Animal Care in a non-lethal program will provide for efficiencies, better trained staff, improved infrastructure, and greater opportunities to educate the pub...
