SUMMARY OF REQUEST:
Crisis Intervention Training provides specialized and comprehensive training to law enforcement personnel who respond to incidents involving a person with a mental illness. Law Enforcement personnel learn to identify signs and symptoms of mental illness and how to utilize a range of stabilization and de-escalation techniques. Crisis Intervention Trainings are often paid for and provided by the law enforcement agency or health care agency with personnel being trained. Often CIT is embedded into the agency as a routine training for personnel. Agencies embedding CIT as part of their routine training program would be one of the next steps in expanding CIT in Mendocino County.

From 2019 - 2020, Mendocino County Behavioral Health and Recovery Services sponsored three Crisis Intervention Trainings (CIT) in an effort to bring CIT to Mendocino County. One hundred forty-nine total law enforcement, first responders, and community members attended these trainings. The total cost for the three trainings total $38,317.07.
