Previous Board/Board Committee Actions:

On February 9, 2021, the Board of Supervisors referred a matter to the Government Committee for consideration of the review and update of all County Social Media Use policies and County Social Media Handbooks.

Summary of Referral

At its meeting on February 9, 2021, the Board of Supervisors discussed the approval of an agreement with a social media contractor providing services for the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office.  During this discussion, the issue of freedom of speech and appropriate social media practices as it applies to County employees and contractors was brought up as a concern.  The Board of Supervisors commented on the need to update the County Social Media Use policy and Social Media Handbook to align to the current social media standards.  The Board then provided a directive to refer the review and update of all County Social Media Use policies and County Social Media Handbooks to the Government Committee.
