Summary of Request

2-1-1 is the health and human services hotline that maintains an updated database and answers calls and texts 24/7.  Transferring provision of 2-1-1 services to United Way of the Wine Country will allow for more comprehensive, efficient, and less expensive service delivery.

Background: United Way of the Wine Country (UWWC) is a regional agency focused on creating community-based and community-led solutions that improve family financial stability. For over 50 years, United Way of the Wine Country has been working to support sustainable improvements to systems and services that benefit all residents in our shared communities. UWWC proudly serves families and individuals living and working in Sonoma, Mendocino, Lake, Humboldt and Del Norte counties and remains deeply committed to improving family financial stability by serving as a vital link between residents, nonprofit organizations, businesses and government leaders.  The County of Sonoma contracts with UWWC to provide 2-1-1 services for Sonoma County. UWWC is also a funder of 2-1-1 Humboldt. Mendocino and UWWC/Sonoma originally worked together to contract for 2-1-1 serves (~2012), but when UWWC changed its contractor in order to improve services (~2018), HHSA did not have the staffing to address the issue. Mendocino continued with the Inland Empire United Way to provide 2-1-1 services in Mendocino County. UWWC recognized the difficulty smaller counties have in providing information and referrals to its residents, and so invited Mendocino to leverage its resources and re-join the 2-1-1 program.
