Summary of Request

The Mendocino County Jail has a need to expand its video conferencing to support conferences with the court for non-evidentiary hearings. COVID-19 has pushed the expansion of this program with the judges, the court and public defender. This equipment will reduce transportation services and expenses. The equipment will also reduce potential liability by enhancing security for inmates, staff, and the public.  One unit is for the multi-purpose room and will give judges the dual monitor configuration they requested and will enable staff and inmates to meet hearing schedules. The second unit is to replace the failed equipment in the law library.

Per Policy 1 - 2.7 on emergency purchases, the Sheriff’s Office advised our Deputy CEO liaison of the circumstances above. The two units of Lifesize Icon 600 videoconferencing equipment were approved for emergency purchase. This request is now brought forth for retroactive approval by the Board.
