August 18, 2020, Item 4(j), Approval of BOS Agreement 20-123 with Mendocino County Fire Safe Council for Fiscal Year 2020-21;
August 17, 2021, Item 4(f), approval to award $600,000 to Mendocino County Fire Safe Council through acceptance of a prioritized spend for projects utilizing PG&E Disaster Settlement Funds.
Summary of Request:
On August 17, 2021, the Mendocino County Board of Supervisors (BOS) approved a Prioritized Spend related to projects for strategically investing one-time Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) disaster settlement funds, and authorized the Assistant Chief Executive Officer to prepare and bring forward the necessary contracts for distribution of funds for non-county agencies. The proposed contract with Mendocino County Fire Safe Council (MCFSC) in the amount of $600,000 is among the contracts listed on the Prioritized Spend.
Pursuant to the proposed Agreement, MCFSC will utilize funding for operational costs for fiscal years 2021-22 through 2025-26. Activities funded through this contract include: maintaining and improving organizational capacities and functions to increase support for fire preparedness activities within the County; educating residents and organizing communities for fire preparedness, thereby improving outcomes and reducing demand on first responders; and creating plans and pursuing funding for fire preparedness projects in prioritized areas.
This contract is retroactive due to the extensive amount of time needed for County staff to develop a contract template specific to awarding PG&E disaster settlement funded grants to local agencies.
Alternative Action/Motion:
Return to staff for alternative handling.
