On June 21, 2016, the Board of Supervisors adopted the Master Position Allocation table for FY 2016 - 2017, Resolution No. 16.017.
SUMMARY OF REQUEST:
The Human Resources Department is charged, as part of the overall maintenance of the classification and compensation plan, to evaluate current classifications, create new classifications (including appropriate salary levels), reclassify positions, examine requests for salary grade adjustments, analyze allocations, and make recommendations for additions, modifications, and corrections.
At the request of the Sheriff's Office, Human Resources has reviewed the salary grade of the classification of Cook. Cooks are used in the Jail and in Juvenile Hall to provide meals for inmates and incarcerated youth as mandated. This is a single level classification in which incumbents enter the position with at least six (6) months of institutional cooking experience. Aside from learning specific protocols and procedures of the Jail and Juvenile Hall once on the job, incumbents are generally expected to enter the job fully trained in food preparation techniques, quantity cooking, and the preparation of special or restricted diets, as well as food safety and sanitation methods.
