Summary of Request

The Workforce Investment Act (WIA) of 1998 was superseded by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) when it was signed in to law by President Obama on July 22, 2014. As was under WIA, the WIOA requires the WDB to work in partnership with the County Board of Supervisors (BOS), otherwise known as the Local Elected Official (LEO) according to WIOA. The relationship between the WDB, Administrative Staff and the LEO is detailed in an agreement signed by the BOS and is known as the “Workforce Development Board/Local Elected Official/Administrative Staff Partnership Agreement”. The new LEO agreement includes the required updates from “WIA” to “WIOA” and changes in law. The WDB approved the LEO agreement at their May 11, 2016 meeting. Planning and Building Services serves as the Administrative Staff to the WDB and requests that the BOS approves the LEO agreement.
