RECOMMENDED ACTION/MOTION:

Adopt Resolution authorizing Department of Transportation (DOT) to advertise for bids and award Contract Number 160047 in an estimated amount of $370,000 to perform repairs to a portion of the westerly capping fill of the closed Laytonville Landfill; increase the Director of Transportation's change order authority to 10% of the contract; and authorize Chair to sign same.

PREVIOUS BOARD/BOARD COMMITTEE ACTIONS:

SUMMARY OF REQUEST:
Department of Transportation will prepare and administer construction plans, specifications, estimates and contract documents to perform repairs to a portion of the capping fill on the western slope of the closed Laytonville Landfill at its western-most bank. The damage is the result of a storm-related slide in December 2015. The total construction cost is estimated at $370,000 and will be paid by the Landfill Closure fund. Construction needs to be completed by September 30, 2016. DOT believes it is prudent to allow the Director of Transportation to authorize contract change orders up to 10% of the contract amount in order to allow for the timely completion of work.

ALTERNATIVE ACTION/MOTION:
Postpone advertisement of the contract and delay commencement of slide repair.
