Summary of Request

County of Mendocino Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA)-Public Health and the Mendocino County Breastfeeding Coalition request that the County of Mendocino Board of Supervisors adopt a Proclamation to recognize the month of August 2016 as National Breastfeeding Month in Mendocino County. This Proclamation is intended to raise community awareness on the benefits of breastfeeding and to promote support for mothers who choose to breastfeed.

The Mendocino County Breastfeeding Coalition is a local collaborative which was formed in the late 1990s, by local leaders of both the WIC Program and the Le Leche League to promote and support breastfeeding through education and outreach in our community. The coalition is now composed of both a coastal and an inland group, both meeting monthly. Membership is composed of representatives from HHSA-Public Health, First 5 Mendocino, healthcare providers, breastfeeding advocates, and breastfeeding mothers.
