In October, 2013 the Board of Supervisors authorized the HHSA, Public Health Director to sign all documents related to this grant.

 

Summary of Request

HHSA, Public Health, has been given a grant to provide nutrition education and obesity prevention services, “Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education” (SNAP-Ed) to eligible low-income families in Mendocino County.  The program is funded federally by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and administered at the state level by the California Department of Social Services and the California Department of Public Health.  Locally, the grant will be administered by Public Health, Prevention and Planning Unit, to provide nutrition education primarily to low income families and children, and use Policy, System and Environmental (PSE) changes to improve access to healthy food options and promote physical activity for low-income families. All activities will be provided by existing staff or community subcontractors and no new staff will be required.
