PREVIOUS BOARD/BOARD COMMITTEE ACTIONS:
This request is consistent with previous board actions to support the growth of County libraries, particularly through community donations. In a recent step to encourage donations to the libraries, in February of 2016, supervisors voted 5-0 to declare donations to the libraries as exempt from the County's A-87 internal use fee. Specific to the County library in Fort Bragg, the County has invested fire insurance proceeds, one-time General Fund dollars, and sizeable donations by the Friends of the Fort Bragg Library, a non-profit, to purchase and remodel the current library.

SUMMARY OF REQUEST:
The County Library in Fort Bragg is very popular, with monthly circulation at times approximating the monthly circulation of the County's larger library in Ukiah. The Friends of the Fort Bragg Library, an active group of community volunteers, is proposing to purchase an adjacent property, clear the property of buildings, and then donate it for use by the library. In the short-term, the donation would provide the library with off-street parking. In the long-term, it would provide the library with room to grow, as it is located on a property significantly smaller than the County's library properties in Ukiah and Willits.
