Previous Board/Board Committee Actions:
May 4, 2015, Item 4(m) Mendocino County Local Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Local Area Designation
Summary of Request:
The WIOA is designed to strengthen and improve the public workforce system, put job seekers back to work by helping workers acquire the skills employers need, and help employers access the talent pool needed to compete in a global economy. On July 1, 2016, a Joint Powers Agency was entered into between the counties of Napa, Lake, and Marin, to meet the requirements of the WIOA to operate a regional Workforce Development Board, which is known as the Workforce Alliance of the North Bay. In response to concerns over rising costs for the County of Mendocino to operate a single county local workforce delivery area, local staff have been working with WANB staff and the State to explore the possibility of joining the JPA. Staff and the Workforce Development Board Executive Committee are recommending a formal request for inclusion to the JPA with Napa, Marin, and Lake Counties. Mendocino County has a long and successful history of partnering with these counties as part of the North Bay Employment Connection in the administration of the regional workforce development system, and today's action will build upon this success. Please see attached staff report for the full details of this proposal.
