Summary of Request

In 2011, and multiple years before that the Mendocino County Library’s budget was in need of help.  Staffing levels, operational hours and materials budget were at an all-time low.  Many people and organizations recognized the value of the Mendocino County Free Library and wanted to work towards a restoration of services, hours of operation, and materials available to the public.  Measure A was put on the November 2011 ballot, and passed with a 74% majority.  In the years following Measure A, the libraries budget has doubled.  Hours of operation for each of the branches has been restored, staffing levels have increased, programs for all ages have increased, and the library is able to offer much more in the way of materials, such as books, ebooks, dvds, on line databases, books on CD etc.
