Receive informational presentation regarding a new State law that is intended to provide incentives for property owners to construct accessory dwellings as a form of housing; and provide direction to staff, which may include pursuing pre-approved building plans for Mendocino County.

Summary of Request

The purpose of this agenda item is two-fold: 1) to inform the Board of Supervisors, and the public of a new State law that is intended to provide incentives for property owners to construct accessory dwelling units as a form of housing; and 2) to seek direction from the Board to see if they would like the County of Mendocino to take any additional steps to encourage the construction of accessory dwelling units, such as offer pre-approved building plans free of charge to property owners, as is done in a number of California cities, including the City of Fort Bragg.
