Previous Board/Board Committee Actions:

On May 19, 2015, the Board of Supervisors adopted a revised Mendocino County Business Improvement District ordinance (Mendocino County Code Chapter 5.140) that requires Board appointment of six members to the Mendocino County Tourism Commission representing specified categories and for specified terms. On July 7, 2015, the Board of Supervisors approved the election and appointment process for the Mendocino County Tourism Commission. On December 8, 2015 the Board of Supervisors made their first appointments to the Mendocino County Tourism Commission.

Summary of Request

Pursuant to the current Mendocino County Business Improvement District ordinance, the Board of Supervisors is responsible for the appointment of six members to the Mendocino County Tourism Commission (MCTC) which will be designated as the contractor to administer the Business Improvement District (BID) and assume responsibility for implementing the approved marketing plan. In December, 2015 the Board of Supervisors appointed six members to serve staggered terms of one to three years to ensure no more than two of the appointed member seats expire in any given year. The initial terms of the At Large Member seat and the Food/Beverage Business Member seat, when appointed in December 2015, were for one year. The terms for those seats expired in December 2016 and were noticed as vacant. Since posting the vacancy notice, six applications (included as attachments) were received for the two vacant seats, the applicants include: Cynthia Ariosta, John Kuhry, Stuart Marcus, Raakesh Patel, Robin Collier, and John Dixon. Two of the applicants, Ms. Ariosta and Ms. Collier, expressed interest in serving as the Food/Beverage Business Member. Five of the applicants, Mr. Kuhry, Mr. Patel, Mr. Marcus, Mr. Dixon, and Ms. Collier expressed interest in serving as the At Large Member.
