Discussion and Possible Adoption of Resolution Declaring a Local Emergency Related to the January 2017 Winter Storms Event (County-Wide)

End

Recommended Action/Motion:

recommendation

Adopt Resolution declaring a local emergency related to the January 2017 Winter Storms event (County-Wide); and authorize Chair to sign same.

End

Previous Board/Board Committee Actions:

The Board adopts resolutions declaring local emergencies related to storms when necessary.

Summary of Request

From January 8, 2017, through January 24, 2017, severe winter storms and flooding conditions caused major, widespread safety problems to the County Maintained Road System. The Mendocino County Chief Executive Officer/Director of Emergency Services, by delegation, on January 18, proclaimed that a local emergency exists throughout the County. The proposed Resolution is necessary for the Board of Supervisors to ratify the proclaimed local emergency due to the severity of the storm’s impact on our County Maintained Road System.

Alternative Action/Motion:

Do not adopt the recommended Resolution declaring a local emergency related to the January 2017 Winter Storms event.  This option could make it more difficult to fund repairs to storm-induced safety problems and damage to facilities.
