PREVIOUS BOARD/BOARD COMMITTEE ACTIONS:
This proclamation is made annually; it was last adopted on February 2, 2016.
SUMMARY OF REQUEST:
The Mendocino Spay Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP) assists with the cost of spay or neuter operations when the person caring for the animal has limited income or has been tending to a number of feral and/or stray cats. The purpose of this request is to increase public awareness of the need for spaying and neutering as a means to humanely reduce the number of unwanted animals. To encourage people to have their animals spayed or neutered, SNAP will continue its usual program of paying for the cost of spaying or neutering feral cats and assisting low-income people with spaying or neutering their pets.
In 2016, SNAP subsidized 985 spay/neuter surgeries on non-shelter animals. The Care-A-Van sponsored forty mobile spay/neuter events in which 975 animals were cared for. Most of these surgeries were paid for by our community partners, including SNAP, Anderson Valley Animal Rescue, the Humane Society of Inland Mendocino County, and Bones Pet Rescue.
