SUMMARY OF REQUEST:
In 2011/12 the U.S. Marshall loaned to the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) 100 new and better hand held radios to upgrade the capabilities of the deputies in providing public safety in our county and to better equip the deputies for their own safety. This occurred after the man hunt incident between Willits and Fort Bragg. Since the loan is now five years ago, it is expected that the U.S. Marshall will request the return of the 100 hand held radios. The radios used prior to the U.S. Marshall loan were put into use by the County Search and Rescue Team and also for county emergency situations and are also used by allied agencies who come to help the county in times of need. These radios are old technology but serve a vital purpose and will remain in this use. The request to purchase eighty new hand held radios for MCSO will provide the latest and most current technology in the field of this equipment.
