Summary of Request

The Mendocino County Office of Emergency Services (OES) would like to purchase a Long Range Acoustic Device (LRAD) for use by OES, the Sheriff’s Office, and the Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue (SAR) Team. This device allows for the transmission of audio in more precisely and for longer ranges than traditional public address loud speakers. The LRAD would be a vital tool during search and rescue operations and could assist SAR personnel in communicating with lost persons. Additionally, the LRAD could be used during emergencies to provide vital information to the public across greater distances. The purchase of the $7,300 LRAD will be made under a competitively awarded US Communities contract.  In addition to the LRAD fixed asset, OES is requesting to purchase a Wireless adapter kit as an accessory to the asset for a total purchase of approximately $9,770.
