SUMMARY OF REQUEST:
Mendocino County does not have a "go to" organization with a comprehensive focus on economic development. The Economic Development and Finance Corporation (EDFC) provides access to capital and West Company (West Co.) provides microenterprise technical assistance. Each organization provides valuable assistance that furthers local economic development but each is limited by funding and program constraints. EDFC and West Co. are actively exploring the opportunities for forming a consolidated organization capable of providing comprehensive economic development services in Mendocino County with expanded programs and greater geographical accessibility.

Supervisors Hamburg and McCowen are Board representatives to EDFC and have been participating in discussions with representatives of EDFC and West Co. about the possibilities for a consolidated organization with expanded responsibility for economic development. EDFC and West Co. have requested an opportunity to make a presentation to the Board requesting endorsement of their proposal for a Mendocino Economic Development Alliance that would become the "go to" organization for economic development in Mendocino County.
