Summary of Request

The U. S. Board on Geographic Names has requested the opinion of the Board of Supervisors regarding a proposal to rename “Regina Heights” to “Rogina Heights”. The area is located in the foothills east of Ukiah. The property was owned and subdivided by Frank and Estelle Rogina who also founded the Rogina Water Company which is still owned by family members and supplies water to the area. Supervisors Brown and McCowen believe the current name originated as a spelling error based on the phonetic pronunciation of the family name. Accordingly, it is requested that the Board approve sending the attached letter of support in favor of changing the name to “Rogina Heights.”

Alternative Action/Motion:

Do not approve sending the letter of support or give other direction.
