Previous Board/Board Committee Actions:

This Proclamation was previously sponsored by the Health and Human Services Agency to recognize June 15, 2016 World Elder Abuse Awareness Day and was adopted by the Board of Supervisors on June 7. 2016.

Summary of Request

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day was launched on June 15, 2006, by the International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse and the World Health Organization at the United Nations.  Its purpose is to provide an opportunity for communities around the world to promote a better understanding of abuse and neglect of older persons by raising awareness of the cultural, social, economic, and demographic situations affecting elder abuse and neglect. This year Supervisor Brown has requested to sponsor the Proclamation as the Board representative to the PSA 26, Lake and Mendocino Counties’ Area Agency on Aging. The Proclamation has been expanded to include awareness of dependent adult abuse and has also been expanded from recognizing a specific date in June to recognizing the entire month of June.

Alternative Action/Motion:

Do not adopt Proclamation.
