RECOMMENDED ACTION/MOTION:

Designate Supervisor Croskey as the County's representative to the Mendocino County Fire Safe Council; and authorize Supervisor Croskey to submit written and/or oral comments on the behalf of Mendocino County, if needed.

PREVIOUS BOARD/BOARD COMMITTEE ACTIONS:
On May 16, 2017, the Board of Supervisors voted to approve $24,500 of funding for the Fire Safe Council in the 2017-2018 proposed budget which was subsequently adopted. The addition of a member of the Board of Supervisors to the Fire Safe Council was deferred until 3rd District Supervisor assignments were discussed.

SUMMARY OF REQUEST:
The Mendocino Fire Safe Council supports Mendocino County residents and stakeholders through partnerships, education and collaboration in building fire resilient communities. The current council members include: Cal Fire, USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, Mendocino National Forest, Bureau of Land Management, Mendocino County Resource Conservation District, Mendocino Redwood Company, Robinson Creek Fire Safe Council, Pine Mountain Fire Safe Council, Black Bart Trail Fire Safe Council, PG&E and private residents.

Long term goals and objectives of the council include: to implement high priority projects identified in the 2016 Mendocino County Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP), assist local communities in achieving Firewise certification, increase community awareness of fire safety and forest resiliency through education and outreach, increase membership and participation in the Fire Safe Council and to secure funding for l...
