PREVIOUS BOARD/BOARD COMMITTEE ACTIONS:
Appointment of the 6th member was last considered by the Board on February 14, 2017.

SUMMARY OF REQUEST:
Pursuant to Government Code ?31520.1, the Board of Supervisors shall appoint the 4th, 5th, 6th, and 9th members to the Board of Retirement. Currently, the 6th member position on the Retirement Board is noticed as vacant. Applicants must be qualified electors of the County who are not connected with the County government in any capacity (except one may be a Supervisor). Pursuant to the Uniform Trustee Appointment Guidelines adopted by the Board of Supervisors on May 15, 2007, applicants are also requested to complete a supplemental questionnaire in addition to their application of interest.

To date, four applications have been received for the vacant seat. The applicants are Mr. John Sakowicz, Ms. Kathryn Smith, Mr. Richard Weinkle, and Mr. Joe Louis Wildman. The applicants have been invited to an interview with the Board to briefly describe their qualifications and interest in serving on the Retirement Board. Following the applicant interviews, staff recommends that the Board consider making an appointment to fill the vacant position.

ALTERNATIVE ACTION/MOTION:
Do not make appointments and provide direction to staff.
