PREVIOUS BOARD/BOARD COMMITTEE ACTIONS:
The Board of Supervisors routinely adopts Proclamations and has recognized September as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month each year since 2014.

SUMMARY OF REQUEST:
Families, caregivers, charities and research groups across the United States observe September as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. More children are being diagnosed with cancer than ever before. Previously, 13,000 children in the U.S under the age of 21 were diagnosed with cancer with approximately 1/4 of them not surviving the disease. Recent statistics indicate an upward trend yearly to 15,780 children.

A diagnosis turns the lives of the entire family upside down. The objective of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month is to put a spotlight on the types of cancer that largely affect children, survivorship issues, and - importantly - to help raise funds for research and family support.

ALTERNATIVE ACTION/MOTION:
Do not adopt the proclamation.
