Summary of Request

The Opioid epidemic has seriously hit Mendocino County. Mendocino County ranks as 7th in the State for deaths related to opioid use and 12th in the State for overdoses. This grant will provide the opportunity to prevent deaths in Mendocino County by providing Narcan, a drug that counters opioid overdoses. Narcan will be distributed to people who take opioids, and to their friends and families at no cost. Distribution will take place through Mendocino County AIDS/Viral Hepatitis Network’s (MCHAVN) Needle Exchange Program, as is required by the State. Four hundred and twenty (420) doses of Narcan will be available to Mendocino County in two (2) shipments between June 1, 2017 and September 30, 2018.
