Summary of Request

The Guest House Museum was constructed in 1892 by the Fort Bragg Redwood Company as a private residence for its founder, Charles Russell Johnson. Prior to its completion Mr. Johnson directed that it be used as a guest house for senior company officials and VIP visitors to the Fort Bragg mill and logging sites. Constructed primarily of redwood, the structure served as a showcase for local redwood products and craftsmanship. The Fort Bragg Redwood Company became the Union Lumber Company in 1905, and was eventually sold to Georgia-Pacific Company, which donated the Guest House to the City of Fort Bragg in 1985 on the condition that it be used as a museum for the Fort Bragg and Mendocino County community. Supervisors Gjerde and McCowen request support for adoption of the attached Proclamation recognizing the one hundred twenty-fifth anniversary of the Fort Bragg Guest House Museum.
