Previous Board/Board Committee Actions:
2014 the Purchasing Agent approved the original agreement; in 2016 the Purchasing Agent approved two amendments to the original agreement; this third amendment places the item in the Board’s authority for approval.
Summary of Request:
The Mendocino County Sheriff-Coroner Office manages the Mendocino County Jail which houses inmates. There are times when inmates must be temporarily housed outside of the jail. Examples are hospitalizations or other facilities where inmates might be sent for treatment. It is critical that those inmates are attended by qualified security people during their time outside of the jail facility.
The Sheriff-Coroner Office contracts with Professional Events Services to provide security services for times when inmates must be outside of the County Jail facility. The County has contracted with Professional Events Services since 2008 for their security services to cover these situations for the County.
Because they are a local contractor, they are able to respond quickly with trained staff. The current agreement with the contractor began May 30, 2014 and was extended by amendment in 2015 to renew May 28, 2018; and was amended a second time in 2016 to add funds to the agreement. This current amendment will add an additional $40,000 and extend the renewal date to June 30, 2018 so it aligns with a fiscal year renewal cycle. The total agreement amount for the term will be $150,000.
Alternative Action/Motion:
Return to staff for alternative handling.
