SUMMARY OF REQUEST:
Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA), Adult and Aging Services staff have been working with nationally-known Homelessness Consultant, Robert G. Marbut, Ph.D., since October 2017. Dr. Marbut's focus has been on understanding the demographics and individual circumstances of adult individuals living on the streets within, and on the fringes of, the cities of Ukiah, Willits, and Fort Bragg. The purpose of this project has been to scientifically gather both quantitative and observational data about individuals from this particular segment of the homeless population in order to provide community leaders and citizens with information from which to make informed policy and quality-of-life decisions.

Dr. Marbut, who has worked with several counties throughout northern California as well the rest of the nation, is now completing a six-month contract with Mendocino County. Following Dr. Marbut's presentations to the Board of Supervisors and the public, HHSA staff anticipates meeting with the other parties (municipalities, law enforcement, and service providers) to design mutually agreed upon strategies to address homelessness in Mendocino County.
