Summary of Request

As per California Health and Safety Code, Section 101025-101070, California Government Code, Mendocino County Code and Mendocino County Resolution No. 10-006, the County of Mendocino is mandated to have an appointed medical doctor serve as the County Health Officer.

Due to the retirement of the County’s current Health Officer, Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) will be seeking a replacement by issuing a Request for Qualifications to find individuals who meet the requirements of County Health Officer. During this time, HHSA has arranged to contract with Dr. Gary Pace for the term of six months while the County completes the competitive bidding process.

Dr. Gary Pace was recently the Interim Health Official for Lake County and is experienced performing the duties of a county health officer. He has lived and worked in Mendocino County, in both Fort Bragg and Boonville, and is familiar with the community. Dr. Pace is a practicing clinician who has vast experience working with tribes as well as substance abuse treatment. Additionally, Dr. Pace speaks Spanish, which will be beneficial in reaching the Latino population in Mendocino County.
