Summary of Request

Health and Human Services Agency, Family and Children’s Services staff will give an informational presentation on the 1 Laptop Program funded by the Rural County Representatives of California (RCRC) and National Homebuyers Fund Inc. (NHF) in partnership with iFoster. This informational presentation to the Board is a required component of the program.

The 1 Laptop Program will provide up to 42 laptops to eligible Mendocino County foster youth, ages 16 to 21. Computers are essential for today’s youth for school, college and work, yet only 5% of rural foster youth have consistent access to a computer in their home. The 1 Laptop Program will help improve foster youth’s connection with family members, friends, and other important people in their lives and with job searches, school work and connection with resources.
