The Board of Supervisors routinely adopts proclamations recognizing special events and meritorious achievements.
SUMMARY OF REQUEST:
Supervisors Brown and McCowen are requesting adoption of the Proclamation recognizing April 28, 2018, as Workers' Memorial Day in Mendocino County. The first Workers' Memorial Day was observed in 1989, with April 28th being chosen in recognition of the anniversary of adoption of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and in accordance with a similar remembrance day in Canada.
Every year on April 28th people in communities and at worksites recognize workers who have been killed, injured, or permanently disabled in the line of duty due to workplace injuries and occupational disease.
Locally, Workers' Memorial Day is being sponsored by the North Bay Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO. An observatory event will be held at the Community Foundation of Mendocino County in the Community Room in Ukiah, on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. This event will honor workers in and from Mendocino County who have been killed, injured or permanently disabled on the job. The Community Foundation of Mendocino County is located at 204 S. Oak St., Ukiah, CA 95482.
