Summary of Request:
Mendocino County Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA), Public Health Nursing, room 133 was recently modified to accommodate an increase in staffing. In addition to sit-stand work stations, the specifications (attached) include hoteling work spaces with cubicle walls, overhead storage and pedestal file cabinets. It is also requested to purchase a conference table, chairs and a SMART board for trainings and case management in the same space.
Services/programs provided within this space include Maternal, Child, Adolescent Health’s (MCAH), Healthy Families America (HFA) Home Visiting Program and Comprehensive Perinatal Services Program (CPSP). The HFA Program is a new, voluntary home visitation program designed to promote healthy families and children through a variety of services, including child development, access to health care, and parent education. The program targets families identified as at risk, with children ages zero to five. Program goals include prevention of negative birth outcomes (low birth weight, substance abuse, criminal activity, child abuse, and neglect), increased parenting skills, healthy pregnancy practices, and the use of social systems. CPSP, funded by Title V Maternal Child Health Block Grant, provides a wide range of culturally competent services to Medi-Cal eligible pregnant women, from conception through 60 days postpartum. In addition to standard obstetric services, women receive enhanced services in the areas of nutrition, psychosocial and health education.
These items were not included in the 2017-18 fixed asset list because there was not a Home visiting program, and the HHSA Public Health director position was vacant for most of the 2017-18 fiscal year. The funding for these items is available now and Public Health has six staff members displaced due to the increase in staffing and new nursing program.
Alternative Action/Motion:
Return to staff for alternative handling.
