The Board approved a modification to the hours of operation for Willits Library on October 18, 2016.
Summary of Request:
The Mendocino County Library is requesting a change to the operational hours of the Ukiah Branch Library. The current schedule is Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 10:00 am to 8:00 pm; Friday and Saturday 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, and Sunday 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. The library has had difficulty fully staffing the current 10 hour days on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday with the final hour of 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm having very few patrons. These three hours would be of greater benefit on Sundays to open the library earlier at 10:00 am which would give Sundays the same open hours as Fridays and Saturdays.
In preparation for the change in hours, Ukiah Library patrons were surveyed for several weeks to assess concerns and preferences. The majority of the public prefer closing one hour earlier on Tuesdays through Thursdays and expanded hours on Sunday over any other possible schedule changes. This change is supported by the Friends of the Ukiah Library and the Library Advisory Board.
The proposed schedule is: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 10:00 am to 7:00 pm, and Friday, Saturday, and Sunday 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. The proposed change in hours would benefit the Ukiah Library by allowing for full staffing for all open hours and the library would retain the same weekly total of overall open hours.
