Adopt Resolution pursuant to Caltrans/California Highway Patrol’s Joint Policy Guidelines for Special Events on State Conventional Highways in order to obtain a permit from Caltrans for the Elk Volunteer Fire Department’s “Great Day in Elk” Parade, to be held in Elk, California, on Saturday, August 25, 2018 from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m.; authorize Chair to sign same; and direct the Clerk of the Board to forward copies of the Resolution to the District Permit Coordinator, Caltrans (Eureka), the California Highway Patrol, and the Elk Volunteer Fire Department.

The Board of Supervisors has annually adopted a Resolution in support of the “Great Day in Elk” parade. Date of last Board action: August 15, 2017.
Summary of Request:
Annually, the Elk Volunteer Fire Department organizes a parade on Highway One through Elk, preceding the “Great Day in Elk” town fair and fundraising event for the Elk Community Center. In order to obtain a permit from CalTrans for the parade, a letter of support is required from the California Highway Patrol and Sheriff, along with a Resolution from the Board of Supervisors and a certificate of insurance from the Elk Volunteer Fire Department’s insurance carrier, pursuant to Caltrans/California Highway Patrol’s Joint Policy Guidelines for Special Events on State Conventional Highways.
