Ratify submission of 2018-19 application for Domestic Cannabis Eradication Suppression Program Funding from the United States Department of Justice Drug Enforcement Agency.
End
Previous Board/Board Committee Actions:
November 14, 2016 16-1097; Ratification of 2016-17 application; July 19, 2016 Approval of Revenue Agreement #2016-29 with US DOJ DEA; September 12, 2017 Ratification of 2017-18 US DOJ DEA Application
Summary of Request:
The US DOJ DEA DCESP 2018-19 application is due in August of each year. The program helps fund the eradication and suppression of illicit Cannabis on Federal land. On July 18, 2018 the US DOJ DEA DCESP sent out the 2018-19 application with a due date of August 1, 2018. There was not sufficient time to complete the application and get it to the Board of Supervisors for approval before the due date. County Policy 25, Section One, Number 4, if there is a time restriction that limits the department from going to the Board, the CEO may approve signing as long as the Department takes the item to the Board of Supervisors at their next available meeting. The Sheriff’s Office requested approval to submit the application from the CEO on July 18, 2018 and the application was submitted to the US DOJ DEA DCESP on July 30, 2018. Ratification of the application submission is being requested by the Board of Supervisors. Funding will be determined in the application process and applicants will be notified at a later date. Once they announce Mendocino County’s award, a request to approve acceptance of the funding will be brought to the Board of Supervisors per County Policy 25.
Alternative Action/Motion:
Return to staff for alternative handling.
