Summary of Request:
Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) is the use of FDA-approved prescription medications, usually in combination with counseling and behavioral therapies, to provide a clinically-effective, whole-person approach to the treatment of substance use disorders. The proposed grant will provide funds to develop a County Team to participate in a Learning Collaborative aimed at developing or expanding MAT for opioid addiction in jails and drug court systems in order to decrease addiction. The Health and Human Services Agency, Public Health Branch will serve as the lead organization for Mendocino County’s team; team members will include, at a minimum, representatives from Public Health, Substance Use Disorders Treatment of Behavioral Health and Recovery Services, the Sheriff’s Office, the County Jail, Probation, Mendocino County’s drug court, and Mendocino Community Health Centers. Grant funding can be used to cover team travel expenses to collaborative meetings in Sacramento, offset compensation to the person designated as Team Leader, and to purchase Narcan to treat drug overdoses in the jail and community.
