Summary of Request:
In accordance with California Government Code Section 7522.56, the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) is requesting to hire Greg Blake as temporary extra help to fulfill critical duties in the Communications Center. Currently Mendocino County is involved in the lawsuit against PG&E regarding the 2017 Redwood Complex Fire. One of the main components of the lawsuit will be the collection of evidence which is held within the CAD dispatching systems as well as audio and video from vehicle cameras. Calls for service directly related to the Redwood Fire Complex will also be collected. Currently we are receiving a huge number of Public Request Act requests from law firms and the public directly dealing with the Redwood Fire Complex. Greg will complete all of the PRA requests for County attorneys as well as the public in these matters. Greg Blake recently retired but is available for extra help, part time work. Greg’s ability to navigate our computer system to retrieve this data would take months to teach a new person if we had to perform a hiring process, not to mention the time involved in the hiring process. Greg will not be working as a dispatcher, however he will report to the dispatch center to work on the computers and radio equipment where the critical information is stored. MCSO is working with the Mendocino County Fire Recovery Team for reimbursement of Greg’s hours.
Alternative Action/Motion:
Return to staff for alternative action.
