Summary of Request:
The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) provides funds annually to the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program of the Health and Human Services Agency, Public Health Branch, to support pregnant, breastfeeding, or postpartum women and their children. These funds enable the WIC program to provide services to help mothers and young children stay healthy. Specifically, qualifying WIC participants are eligible to receive nutrition education, vouchers for nutritious foods, breastfeeding support, and referrals to medical providers and community services. WIC provides these supportive services at nine locations throughout the County.
CDPH designated $3,812,782 in the original revenue Agreement to support Mendocino County’s WIC program from October 1, 2015 through September 30, 2019. Ensuing amendments increased that amount to $4,296,562 with the goal of increasing WIC participation, improving child and maternal health, and to add funding for staffing, equipment, training, and supplies for the WIC program.
This fourth amendment, approved by the State, shifts funds among line items in the previous budget submitted to CDPH. The shift was approved by this Board on June 5, 2018, in its Budget Passage. No additional funds are added.
Alternative Action/Motion:
Return to staff for alternative handling.
