Summary of Request

The Redwood Complex Fire began on October 8, 2017 and burned over 35,000 acres in Redwood and Potter Valleys and destroyed or damaged several hundred homes and minor structures, resulting in the displacement of hundreds of people and the tragic loss of nine lives. The Board encourages everyone to remember, reflect upon and honor the tragic losses suffered by members of our community; the countless acts of valor of first responders and many other community members; and the resiliency of our community as we rebuild and recover; as well as to participate in a candlelight vigil and plaque dedication ceremony on October 7, 2018, at Lion’s Park in Redwood Valley where the South Ukiah Rotary Club will unveil a “memory Rock” forever memorializing those who lost their lives in this tragedy.

Alternative Action/Motion:

Do not adopt Proclamation.
